    Global Communities is an international development non-profit organization. Our mission is to create long-lasting, positive and community-led change that improves the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable people across the globe. Global Communities is seeking an experienced Chief of Party to lead the anticipated 5-year, USAID-funded Feed the Future Rwanda Orora Wihaze program. The purpose of the Rwanda Orora Wihaze (i.e., Orora Wihaze) activity is to sustainably increase the availability of, access to, and consumption of animal-source foods (ASF) through development of a profitable market. The activity will improve the dietary diversity of women of reproductive age (15-49 years of age), especially pregnant and lactating women (PLW), and of children between the ages of 6 to 23 months (CU2) in poor, rural households.


    The Chief of Party will provide overall leadership, technical direction, and strategic direction for the program. The COP will work with USAID Rwanda, Government of Rwanda, and other stakeholders to ensure that project goals are achieved.  The position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda with frequent travel to local field sites.

    Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Accountable for project implementation, ensuring timely and high-quality achievement of program targets and deliverables.
    • Manage program budget to meet expected results, ensuring cost-effective use of Global Communities and donor resources.
    • Using principals of adaptive management, solve challenges under tight deadlines while ensuring operational integrity and program impact.
    • Maintain a strong network of key partners and stakeholders to increase sustainable impacts beyond the life of the program. 
    • Supervise program staff and partners.


    • Master’s degree in a relevant technical area;
    • Demonstrated experience achieving results in one or more of the following areas:
    • Production of animal sourced foods involving chickens, goats, pigs and fish
    • Strengthening of market linkages, particularly for animal sourced foods
    • Increasing access to commercial finance
    • Nutrition-sensitive and/or nutrition specific interventions
    • At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the area of agribusiness, trade or private sector development is highly desirable.
    • Experience with host country public agencies and ministries, as well as with private sector advocacy organizations, is desirable
    • Demonstrated experience in the following areas is desirable: public private partnerships, agricultural policy reform and the facilitation of the policy reform process in the Sub-Saharan African context, public-private dialogue, and institution coalition building in rural economies.
    • Experience as a Chief of Party or similar role in the implementation of activities/projects of similar complexity to Orora Wihaze,
    • Experience managing teams of professionals, and experience with the administrative, procurement, hiring, recruitment, financial and logistical aspects of activity/project implementation.
    • Experience working with international development agencies, recipient country governments, and the private sector in low-income countries is desirable.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse partners, and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams is highly desirable.
    • Experience working closely with and supporting local communities in complex and challenging environments.
    • Experience in Rwanda is preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a variety of stakeholders, including donors, local government, civil society, and private sector.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English required, secondary language skills preferred.
